DC New Years Eve Gala
I did not attend the Washington DC New Years Eve Dinner, Dance, & Drop event this past year, but I have heard nothing but good things from people who went. My friend Alana said that she had never seen such a spread of delicious food before. The way she described all of the different ethnic foods made me hungry! Her boyfriend really enjoyed the open bar that was available; he said it was nice to be able to try new drinks all night. The general consensus is that the price of the Gala ticket was worth it just for the food and drinks alone.
Calling this event a “dance” does not do justice. There were six themed rooms, each featuring a different genre of music. In one room, there was a live orchestra performing classical selections. There was an Asian themed room. Bollywood dance lessons & Salsa lessons for couples were being held in two of the other rooms as well. Out of all of the things to do on New Years Eve, it sounds like this event was the best place to have been.
Dancing wasn’t the only thing on the agenda. There were karaoke and craft tables as well as booths where you could get a henna tattoo or have your caricature painted. Many singles participated in a seated speed dating, too. This all led up to the midnight DC New Years Eve ball drop, hosted by renowned performer Athena Reich. The night ended with an X-rated stand-up comedy performance. The reviews say that even after the party was over, no one wanted to leave.
